Crops at last!

Spinach 'Matador' sown back in October last year. Lovely picked small and eaten raw but these bigger leaves were steamed for a minute til they wilted. I've got some seedlings coming through on the plot to replace those I eat. It's been raining today and is cooler so hopefully they won't bolt

I've had a handful of spuds and 3 strawberries. I hate May. All sow, sow, sow not enough eat, eat, eat.

I'm swotting up on Joy Larkom's Hungry Gap to make sure I eat all year round in future. As it stands the pigeons have eaten more brassicas than I have!

It's Grow your own vegetables - written in 2002. The Hungry Gap is an article which she wrote for a newspaper and she won an award for it! The short piece is contained within the book and it briefly tells you the veg you can grow when there's nowt much on offer. She gives details of varieties and I've already bought seed of Igloo cauli, some French sounding endive. I like the book very much and read it often. My bro has it and he swears by it. Dom has a copy too.
