Brrrrrrrrrr!

It's flippin freezin hereabouts! Had a frost warning last night so all the tender stuff which was hardening off on the yard, including loads of bedding plants, had to be put back into the greenhouse, and the paraffin heater lit

It seems that it's too cold to germinate my pumpkins, squashes and corn in the greenhouse and as they've yet to put in an appearance, I've bought them back indoors and I'm giving them some gentle bottom heat in the electric propagator. Fingers crossed they've not rotted off

Not been to the plot for days. I did go to have a look round and dodged the showers to pull a cabbage and pick a lettuce but the rain just got too heavy so I gave up. Pottered about in the shed though and sowed some seeds with winter food in mind - 'Igloo' mini caulis and some of that lime green broccoli 'Romanesco'.

The fleece had blown off some of the brassicas again and the pigeons have now eaten most of the red cabbage and newly-planted sprouts. Tsk. So fed up with fleece, cos it blows all over the shop - and the pigeons just keep pecking holes in it - that I went out and bought a net tunnel and 4 metres of Enviromesh. It would be far cheaper I'm sure just to give in and go to the soddin supermarket!
